location Newhaven, United Kingdom
The project proposed the redevelopment of the east bank of the River Ouse from the North Quay to the north of the swing-bridge carrying the A259 road over the river to the coast at the southern end where the river enters the English Channel together with, proposals for the redevelopment of areas of the west bank of the river. The proposals for the northern and central parts of the east bank included medium-rise residential development punctuated by cafes and bars all of which were ‘woven through’ by connecting areas of landscaping. Proposals for the southern part of the east bank included a new two-ship port for the Newhaven to Dieppe Roll-On-Roll-Off (RORO) ferry service and a small container port planned on land currently forming the ferry port facilities. The development proposed the inclusion of a new railways station to replace the existing South Quay station with an adjacent budget hotel.
